THE ORGANIZATION

 

Mountain Lit is a community-based agency that supports and promotes writers and reading in Western North Carolina.  It has many partners and Advisory Writers.

 

ITS OBJECTIVES

 

Inspire reading in the region through creative programs.

Create a strong media presence for writers and cultural organizations in the region.

Help make Western North Carolina a literary destination.

Maintain a network and information source for readers, writers, and cultural groups in the region. 

 

CURRENT PROGRAMS

 

WNC Community Read—annual region-wide book picks; with a wide range of programs.  The fall/winter 2011 book is Serena by Ron Rash.

Book Discussion X—a bi-monthly discussion at Battery Park Book Exchange in the Grove Arcade, Asheville.

20 Minutes with Ron Rash and " Serena"--a video.

Word & icon--a program being brought into a school system with help from a civic club (being developed, with funding).

Immersion in WNC Literature--a talk illustrating the region's literature, from the Cherokee to the present day.

Speaker's Bureau.

Online magazine and social network—The Read on WNC at TheReadonWNC.ning.com.
