In 1989 Peggy Tabor Millin joined a group of non-Catholics on a journey to Medjugorje, Bosnia, where the Virgin Mary had been appearing to a group of young people since 1981. During the trip, Millin acted as scribe, documenting her pilgrimage in words and pictures, and eventually publishing an article about her experiences in New Realities magazine.
Millin arrived in Medjugorje, skeptical that she would have a profound spiritual experience, yet fully open and accepting. The events of that trip profoundly changed Millin's life forever, so much so that she called her journey to Medjugorje, "My point of spiritual integration." It was the beginning of an ongoing process of spiritual awakening, acceptance of Divine Love, and acceptance of self.
That article in New Realities magazine led to the publication of Mary's Way, a book which fully documented her experiences in Medjugorje, originally published in 1990. Now, thirty years later, Millin has released Mary's Way: Cultivating a Peaceful Heart in Trying Times, updated and newly retitled to reflect the changing times.
Millin writes, "The spiritual journey has no goal, nothing tangible to grasp, not even a permanent state of being. Enlightenment comes in flashes of insight that last as long as they last. Such flashes arise from shifting our focus from reflection of our inner reality; increasingly the heart rests in peace and selfless service replaces striving This shift in focus rearranges our priorities; we give up what no longer serves this higher purpose and are occasionally surprised by glimpses of the resplendent 'pearl of great price.'"
This book is transformative, truly life changing and a breath of fresh air. The spiritual journey is precisely that--a journey. We grow, we change, learn to accept ourselves and others.
