The Western North Carolina Historical Association is currently accepting nominations for the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award.  Originated by the Lipinsky family, and funded by Mrs. JoAnn L. Edwinn, the Award has been presented annually, since 1955,  for printed works that focus special attention on Western North Carolina.

Entries must be a published work of fiction, nonfiction, drama or poetry with a publication date in 2011 or no later than June 1, 2012.  The author must be a native of the Western North Carolina region or a resident of WNC for at least twelve months prior to the closing date for the Award.  If author does not qualify as a native or resident, the focus or setting of the work must be Western North Carolina.

The deadline is July 15, 2012 and publishers and/or applicants should submit a cover letter and three copies of the work, post marked no later than July 15, to WNCHA Wolfe Award, 283 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC  28801.

Some authors who have received this award previously include John Paris, Gail Godwin, John Ehle, Charles Frazier, Robert Brunk, Michael McFee, Lee Smith, Ron Rash and Wayne Caldwell.  Call 828-253-9231 for additional information.
