Connie Regan-Blake posted an eventThe Swannanoa Valley Museum in Black Mountain presents a new hiking series for 2013: The Waterfalls of the Valley Hike Series.
The Waterfalls of the Valley Hike Series will lead hikers to five of the area’s most secluded and breathtaking waterfalls. They will begin on the first Saturday in February and continue on the first Saturdays in April, June, September, and November. The entire series can be experienced by museum members for $125, or separately as shown below.
#1: Falls Branch and Grove Stone Quarry – Sat., Feb. 2, 9 a.m. $20 for members or $30 for non-members.
#2: Blue Sea Falls – Sat., Apr. 6, 9 a.m. $30 for members or $50 for non-members.
#3: Mitchell Falls Hike – Sat., Jun. 2, 8:30 a.m. $50 for members and $75 for non-members.
#4 – Sat., Sept. 7.
#5 – Sat., Nov. 2.

The Swannanoa Rim Hike Series, praised as “one thing all North Carolinians should do” by Our State Magazine, is also continuing this year with eleven breathtaking hikes through the Swannanoa Valley held on each third Saturday. Hikes include:
#1: Weatherford Heights segment – Sat., Feb. 16, 8 a.m.
#2: Rhododendron Rim segment – Sat., Mar. 16, 8 a.m.
#3: Cherokee Boundary segment – Sat., Apr. 20, 8 a.m.
#4: Montreat East Ridge segment – Sat., May 19, 8 a.m.
#5: Pinnacle of the Blue Ridge segment – Sat., Jun. 15, 8 a.m.
#6: Grey Eagle Rock segment – Sat., Jul. 20, 8 a.m.
#7: Mountain to Sea Trail segment – Sat., Aug. 17, 8 a.m.
#8: Walker Knob segment – Sat., Sept. 23, 8 a.m.
#9: Buckner’s Knob segment – Sat., Oct. 19, 8 a.m.
#10: Top of Brushy and High Top of Bee Tree segment – Sat., Nov. 16, 8 a.m.
#11: Finisher’s Celebration – Sat., Dec. 14, 5 p.m.
Each hike costs $25 for museum members or $45 for non-members. Each hike is limited to 30 participants; reservations must be made to John Buckner at 828-669-4300 or by emailing jpb227@charter.net.
There will be a Rim Hike Series Interest Meeting on Tues., Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Black Mountain Savings Bank. It will be an orientation for those interested in the series.
