Poetry Month Celebrations at Spellbound

April is National Poetry Month. Here’s how we’re celebrating at Spellbound:

All poetry books are on sale for the whole month of April! Save 20% off the retail price on all poetry books, including special orders placed this month. Discover the world of children's poetry beyond Shel Silverstein, including regional authors like Asheville's very own Allan Wolf, Karen Jo Shapiro from Greensboro, and Julia Ebel from Jamestown. Though don't worry--we have plenty of books by Uncle Shelby, as well as Children's Poet Laureate Jack Prelutsky and many, many more!

Thursday April 16th 4:00pm - Poetry Workshop with NC Author Julia Ebel
This workshop is open to kids 8 and up as well as parents and teachers who would like to observe or participate. School or home school groups welcome. (Please call ahead if bringing 5 or more.) Julia does many school appearances, so if you are looking to schedule an author appearance or workshop for your school, please join in. For more on Julia’s books and workshops, please check out her website.

Her books: Dresses, Dreams and Beadwood Leaves, which is a book of poetry; Jack Tales and Mountain Yarns, which uses the naturally poetic flow of the storyteller’s voice to tell the stories, and The Picture Man, also told with free-verse style.

Celebrate the second national Poem in Your Pocket Day on Thursday, April 30! The idea is simple: select a poem you love during National Poetry Month, then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family, and friends on April 30. Check out our display in the store the last week of April, featuring verses from children's poets that kids (and adults) can take to keep in their pockets for this special day.
