I have been watching and reading with fascination the great marketing and publicity
accorded the book and movie - Julie and Julia
Julie Powell blogged about cooking all the recipes in Julia Child's cookbook. She
got a NY Times interview, a book and now a movie.
I read her book and looked at her blog. Mostly it's about how hard it was to cook
all those recipes that Julia Child said were so easy. It was an entertaining book
but I must admit I read it mostly to see what makes a blog attract so much attention.
I also have a blog, This Hiking Life
that I know people read.
Julie got a lot of comments but I get very few on my website;
mostly people send me emails. I think that she started blogging
before there was so much security and it was quicker for readers to just write something
off the top of their heads.
And of course, she writes a lot about her moods and her cubicle job that people can relate to.
I don't think the book got people cooking. They just liked to read about it.
Then of course, with the movie, Julia Childs' obscure biography comes to light and so does her cookbooks.
