On January 23, Pam Kelley, book review page editor at THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, will review my new book about my childhood librarian, Ms. Dorothy Thomas, founding librarian of the Avery Mitchell Yancey Regional Library System.
Illustrated by Susan Condi Lamb, illustrator of MY GREAT AUNT ARIZONA, the book pays tribute to a woman who influenced a generation of young--and older--readers in the region. As . . . ARIZONA is dedicated to all teachers, members of the most influential profession in the world, MISS DOROTHY is dedicated to all librarians (and media specialists) because those in that profession bring the world to our doors.
I hope that, as . . . ARIZONA has done, this book will inspire those who read it to share our memories of those who helped to make us who we are with the youngsters in our lives.
