from press release
Novelist Ann Hite, discusses her debut novel Ghost on Black Mountain, at the Jackson County Public Library, Sylva, Thurs., June 28, 7 p.m.
Told in the voices of five women whose lives are bound when a murder takes place in rural Depression-era North Carolina, Ghost on Black Mountain spans generations and conjures Southern folklore—mystery, spirits, hoodoo, and the beauty of the Appalachian landscape.
Hite, who lives in Smyrna, Georgia, is a fan of the increasingly popular genre known as Southern Fiction, and her own work falls in the more specific category of Southern Gothic. She said in an interview with the “Huffington Post,” “Southern Fiction's finest voices were born on front porches, at family gatherings, and in the conversations overheard at old fashion church homecomings. Storytelling is a requirement of being born in the South. It's in our blood.”
Her book talk will touch on what makes Southern Fiction unique, and she will read selections from Ghost on Black Mountain. For more information, please call the Jackson County Public Library in Sylva, 586-2016. The program is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Jackson County Public Library.
