Flat Rock history via a road

Travelling back in time on a Flat Rock roadby Rob Neufeld             If you walk the one mile length of North Highland Lake Road in Flat Rock, you step nearly 200 years into the past.            At the east end, the 21st century reigns.  Fronting six-lane Spartanburg Highway, a super-Ingles sits above a bog; and a CVS store faces an Octopus Garden smoke shop, a chiropractor, a cell phone provider, and a six-lane avenue to I-26 a mile away .            Neither Ingles nor CVS carries the big…See More

No 6 in Asheville Cit Times Top Twenty WNC books!

I was surprised and of course delighted to see my book Tender Graces on the list in last Sunday's paper, much less to see it at No 6!

And, though I hate touting a big monster, I can't help but be pleased to be on the Amazon Kindle Bestsellers in LIterary fiction - on the Number 1 spot no less - with Kathryn Stocketts The Help as Number 2 -- although, we have switched and she is No 1 and I No 2--and so it goes.

But I'm also No 9 in over all genres on Kindle.

I've… Continue

Siba Nominations: Tender Graces on the list! yayyY!

I feel happy because I'm on the long list for the 2010 Siba Awards ... well, I'm not exactly, but my book Tender Graces is.

I feel honored to be listed by others out there - like, Pat Conroy, Kathyrn Stockett, Fred Chappel, Rebecca Wells, Jill McCorkle, etc.

*smiling*

So, win or not win, TG was nominated by independent booksellers and that makes me feel…

when it rains . . .

My publishers have decided that "the graces" -the virginia kate sagas- should be more than 3 books . . . perhaps 4 or 5 . . . so I best get busy *laughing*

secret graces will be out in April 2010 - the second in the books. But, Bellebooks/Bell Bridge Books have decided to publish another of my novels in November 2010 -Sweetie. The first plans were to publish Sweetie later next year, but . . . well, they changed their minds!

Secret Graces Trailer Done and posted!

I did it - I made the trailer and it wasn't difficult at all. It's all in fun and I had a good time doing it.

:-)

Cover to Secret Graces . . . Trailer

The cover for Secret Graces is so very different from Tender Graces! Vivid and full of color and hidden things (just like in Micah's paintings). Can't wait to get go ahead to show it.

And I made my own trailer! It wasn't difficult - it may not be a fancy shiny "Professional" trailer, but I'm proud of it. Who knows if trailers help "sell books" - but, I still enjoyed the process. Will link it here soon!

Poetry

Even though I am not a poet, every so often I'll spit out a poem. Two of them were recently published: one in The Nervous Breakdown and the other in OCEAN Magazine (where I also have a photograph that accompanies another writer's poem). Always good to have an acceptance to give us a boost,

Here We Go Again!

It's time to wait with held breath while the publishers' editors look at my book (Secret Graces) to see if they like it. Time to pick out covers. Time to go over galley proofs. Time to anticipate release date. A year after TG's release and here I go again. I hope the book will be well received. It's a whole other critter when you write for a deadline that is months in the making instead of "having all the time in the world" to write a novel... egads!

But, it's all exciting, right?… Continue

Louisiana Book Festival....

The La Book Festival was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed the panel I was on (they paired me with a Louisiana author). Wally Lamb and his wife bought my book after his wife attended my panel (teehee), and the book signing went better than I thought it would. The evening before, the author's party was well-attended and the food - well, So Louisiana food -even the worst is better than a lot of the best!

I had a great time and hope to be invited again next year!
