Flat Rock history via a road

Travelling back in time on a Flat Rock roadby Rob Neufeld             If you walk the one mile length of North Highland Lake Road in Flat Rock, you step nearly 200 years into the past.            At the east end, the 21st century reigns.  Fronting six-lane Spartanburg Highway, a super-Ingles sits above a bog; and a CVS store faces an Octopus Garden smoke shop, a chiropractor, a cell phone provider, and a six-lane avenue to I-26 a mile away .            Neither Ingles nor CVS carries the big…See More

No 6 in Asheville Cit Times Top Twenty WNC books!

I was surprised and of course delighted to see my book Tender Graces on the list in last Sunday's paper, much less to see it at No 6!

And, though I hate touting a big monster, I can't help but be pleased to be on the Amazon Kindle Bestsellers in LIterary fiction - on the Number 1 spot no less - with Kathryn Stocketts The Help as Number 2 -- although, we have switched and she is No 1 and I No 2--and so it goes.

But I'm also No 9 in over all genres on Kindle.

I've… Continue

screaming and hollering “oh my.”

Poor old Blacksnake just hangin’ there,

not hurtin’ nobody in the world.

Seems some folks don’t like no…

Family of Arthur Edwin Guest and Dorothy Galloway Guest

Today I received a rather large package from Iowa that contains old photos of the family of Arthur Edwin Guest and wife, Dorothy Galloway Guest, along with old letters and other misc papers.

Arthur died in 1994 in Buncombe County and Dorothy died in 1969 in Buncombe County. From census records they were in Iowa up until 1930... then they are found living in New Jersey. I am not sure when they came to Buncombe County.

I would like to find living descendants of this couple, or…
