Mountain Words, Mountain Music

Appalachian poet, musician, and raconteur Kirk Judd has a new book and CD package out, "My People Was Music." I thought I'd share part of a Goodreads review I did of the book - I think members of The Read would enjoy this. There is no gussying-up here. This is the plain hard rock undergirding Appalachia. This is the sound of water rushing, the clawhammer banjo sound, the crack of a wedge as it splits that cross-grained stump of oak. Kirk Judd has been making poems for a long time, but like a…See More

.:.Updates.:.

Fred and Susan Chappell, are not only an attractive couple, and a very smart couple, but they are also super nice!  As I get older, the quality of "nice" rises higher and higher in my esteem.

I was thinking of the thousand or so would-be writers that I come into contact each year, and always think that many could benefit greatly from events like Fred Chappell's talk and reading tonight.  You could pay $500 for a writer's workshop, and still not get the quality, talent, and high caliber instruction that I was exposed to tonight.

These last few months we've had several inspiring authors talk about their research and writing and career, and more (see our website www.fountainheadbookstore.com).  I am grateful, and humbled and awed to get to learn from these authors, as well as enjoy the fruits of their labors.
