Last fall Sherman Alexie launched the Indies First movement and encouraged authors to support their local indies by handselling books on Small Business Saturday. Now as part of the celebration of the 95th annual Children's Book Week (May 12–18), the Children's Book Council, Every Child a Reader (the organization that runs CBW), and the American Booksellers Association are launching an Indies First Storytime Day on Saturday, May 17.

I have been extremely happy to help a couple of different customers in the last few weeks who have come in to the bookshop specifically looking for wordless picture books. Why so happy? Because over the last eight years I have generally found that wordless picture books, no matter how visually stunning, hilarious or touching or award-winning, can be a really tough sell.
And that's a shame.

Expanded Store Hours
