"Elizabeth, Thanks for your comments. I do not know if Cornelia and William Henry were divorced in 1887, but I have not found any documentation of it so far. I will check the records in Raleigh. But I did see a deed dated 1892 that listed Wm. L.…"

I forgot to say thank you for all the work you did on this book, Mr Russell. I appreciate it greatly. I was engrossed in the book these last 2 weeks while getting to know a lovely lady who is gone to her reward.

I just finished the book "Fear in North Carolina". I kept looking up things online to know their meaning- like warping the dress , going to a gander pulling, and other words or practices that I had no idea of what was being talked about.
Please tell me why Corneila had to divorce in 1887. Her heartfelt gratitude for her husband is displayed so beautifully that I'd suggest others to read this for that alone. Please fill me in if you know. thank you. How did she happen to leave her home? Have to sell it?

Rick - Just finished Fear and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't tell you how much more enlightened I feel regarding the effect that the Civil War had on the lives of the mountaineers, even those of means like the Henrys. It took me a while to figure out what Cornelia's sudden confinements were all about. And her never-ending textile endeavors, attention to household affairs, producing and preserving foodstuffs, managing the slaves, health issues, and devotion to William were truly eye-opening. I also mined from Cornelia's recordings some information regarding the 25th Regiment N.C. Troops and the fracas it was involved in near Warm Springs on Oct. 26, 1863.

Your editing work and presentation of Cornelia's journals in book form make them easily accessible and understandable for all general readers. I commend you and your co-editor for your efforts and the valuable service that you have rendered.

Rick-Thank you so much for taking the time to type out the remedies from Mr. Henry. How very interesting they were-and they did go along with some of the ones I had listed. Wonder what he would think-all these years later folks still discussing his written thoughts?

Have a nice weekend!

Tipper
