The Value of Reviews

I've wondered for a long time just how important reviews are in relationship to book sales.  Does anyone have an opinion? Also, how does an independently published author go about securing book reviews from newspaper reviewers?  It seems that there is a reluctance on the part of most newspapers to  review self-published books.  Opinions? See More

MANHATTAN BEACH: A Poem by Joe Perrone Jr.

MANHATTAN BEACHBy Joe Perrone, Jr.      I first saw Manhattan Beach as a youth,With its old couples strolling the sand,     Smiling faces advertising their love.I watched as young mermaids,     Waded bravely into the water,Wearing oversized tee shirts turned inside out,     To hide the names of high schools,That everyone knew they went to, anyway.      In the public lockers, men with brown faces,Flashed gap-toothed smiles,     And pushed their way beneath my shower,While miniature replicas…See More

Joe, you seem to have some Italian background.  I was born surrounded by father's Italian family in Philadelphia, and have some memory of the generosity, and wish I had more. My closest relative there died 2 years ago.  Soon I may be able to outline my beginning to use a recording microphone and the Audacity Software. So far I haven't developed this enough and my best bet for the final steps of recording will be a studio in Bristol, VA. A friend at a radio station introduced me to the equipment there.

Nevertheless, the Audacity software is excellent. Call me and I can show you how I use it for practice at my home or ask around where you live.
