Johnnie Grant, publisher of Urban News in Asheville, recalls the beginning of urban renewal in East End. Her comprehension of the process by which communities--particularly African-American ones--get wiped out, relates to the Burton Street community in West Asheville, cut in half by I-240 in 1969; and threatened by the Section B, Alternate 3 design for I-26 today.
