For those interested in the American South, I submit Murphy Station. It is a memoir of growing up in southern Georgia during the troublesome period of the civil rights movement and the cold war. White fears of integration and everyone's fear of nuclear war had their influences on life in in the rural byways no one ever heard of. This story informs the interested of those things that credited and discredited the American South during the 1950s and 1960s, a real time of transition.
