The Media Arts Project and Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center present the 4th annual {Re}HAPPENING event, a celebration of Black Mountain College’s artistic innovations. It will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 6 p.m. until midnight in the original dining hall of Black Mountain College, now Camp Rockmont, in Black Mountain.
At 6 p.m., guests will enjoy a cocktail hour leading into a seated “family style” dinner. During this time, a guest chef will focus on the culinary arts. At 8:30 p.m., the second part of the evening begins, as an “extended evening of music, art and performance along with drinks and food trucks.”
Some featured events include:
Shamanistic Androgyny, a spoken word, music and video performance inspired by the writings of Black Mountain College graduate Michael Rumaker.
Dialoga Aquila, a journey through the constellation Aquila with sound and visuals by Elisa Faires.
Lake Eden Prepared Piano, a prepared piano piece influenced by the waters of Lake Eden on the college campus and the environment throughout the evening in the style of Black Mountain College graduate John Cage.
Spirit House, “an interdisciplinary exploration of architecture and textiles in structural efficiency through geometry” through the building of a Papau New Guinea-inspired Spirit House.
Kiss the Swannanoa!, a “flash labyrinth” made of river deposits and a ceremony to honor the Swannanoa River system.
//COMMENT!//SUBSCRIBE!//, in which Rachel Whitlock will take over one of the camp cabins and turn it into a teenage girl’s bedroom as a study of consumerism, gender and sexual identity, exhibitionism, and social media.
Tickets for {Re}HAPPENING can be bought for $65 ($55 for BMCM/MAP members) for the entire evening or for $20 ($15 for members) for the after-dinner presentations only. The price for the entire evening tickets will increase in mid-March or once the first 75 tickets are sold.
