Event Description

UNC Asheville's 2009-2010 Writers at Home Series continues with readings by local authors Cheryl Dietrich and Catherine Reid at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. The event is free and open to the public.

Dietrich, who retired from the Air Force in 2000, writes memoirs and personal essays about her experiences as a woman in the military. Some of these works have appeared in both literary journals and anthologies, including “The Gettysburg Review,” “Shenandoah” and “Birthed in Scorched Hearts: Women Respond to War.” She is currently working on a full-length memoir. She is a founder and board member of the Candy Maier Scholarship Fund for Women Writers.

Reid is an award-winning essayist and author of the nonfiction book, “Coyote: Seeking the Hunter in Our Midst” (Houghton Mifflin). Reid’s other works have appeared in various journals, including “Massachusetts Review,” “Green Mountain Review” and “Bellevue Literary Review.” Reid was the featured writer for the inaugural issue of “Isotope: A Journal of Literary Nature and Science Writing.” She currently teaches at Warren Wilson College, where she specializes in creative nonfiction.

The Writers at Home Series is sponsored by UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program. For more information, call the program at 828/232-5122.
