On Friday, May 31st at 7 p.m. City Lights Bookstore will celebrate the SIBA award nomination finalists, Kathryn Byer and George Ellison. Byer and Ellison will share poetry from their recent works along with some new work. A reception will follow the reading. SIBA is a trade association which represents over 300 bookstores and thousands of booksellers in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Mississippi.
The Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance exists to empower, promote, and celebrate bookstores in a spirit of partnership. SIBA was formed to unite in one organization individuals and businesses actively engaged in the writing, selling, publishing, distribution and/or promoting of books in the South. Each year, hundreds of booksellers across the South vote on their favorite "handsell" books of the year. These are the "southern" books they have most enjoyed selling to customers; the ones that they couldn't stop talking about. The SIBA Book Award was created to recognize great books of southern origin. To reserve any of Kathryn’s or Ellison’s books please call City Lights Bookstore at 828-586-9499.
