Join us in welcoming author Jennifer Niven, who will present her first work of fiction, Velva Jean Learns to Drive. Set in Appalachia before World War II, it tells the story Velva Jean Hart, a spirited girl whose tumultuous romance with delinquent-turned-preacher Harley Bright forces her to choose between her new life and her dreams. Niven’s first work, The Ice Master, was an Entertainment Weekly top ten nonfiction book of the year and was featured in documentaries on the History Channel and Discovery Channel.
