H. Byron Ballard, who serves as a ritualist and teacher for Mother Grove Goddess Temple has just published Staubs and Ditchwater: A Friendly and Useful Introduction to Hillfolks’ Hoodoo. Her book, written in an easily accessible style and filled with insights and stories, is part memoir, part workbook – and is an important contribution to the study of Appalachian folklore. It includes “Hillfolks’ Hoodoo and the Question of Cultural Strip-mining,” the paper she delivered at “Forging Folklore,” a 2006 conference at Harvard University. Join us for this reading and booksigning, free and open to the public.
