On Wednesday, November 16, 7pm at Malaprop's Bookstore/Cafe, Daniel Blake Smith will read from and sign his book, "An American Betrayal: Cherokee Patriots and the Trail of Tears," in which he examines the people involved in and the events that culminated in The Trail of Tears, as well as the chaotic cultural and social aftermath for the tribe. Formerly a professor of American history, Smith is the author of several books on American history and two prize-winning documentaries about native American life: "Cherokee Legacy: The Trail of Tears," and "Black Indians: An American Story." The event is free and open to the public.
