Flat Rock history via a road

Travelling back in time on a Flat Rock roadby Rob Neufeld             If you walk the one mile length of North Highland Lake Road in Flat Rock, you step nearly 200 years into the past.            At the east end, the 21st century reigns.  Fronting six-lane Spartanburg Highway, a super-Ingles sits above a bog; and a CVS store faces an Octopus Garden smoke shop, a chiropractor, a cell phone provider, and a six-lane avenue to I-26 a mile away .            Neither Ingles nor CVS carries the big…See More

Event Description

Joe Perrone Jr recently published Twice Bitten, the third in the popular Matt Davis Mystery Series. Both Twice Bitten and its predecessor, Opening Day, are set in the bucolic Upstate New York fishing village of Roscoe.
Recently, Joe was honored to be invited by the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce to be the celebrity First Caster at the town's annual ceremony to commemorate the opening day of fishing season at Junction Pool on the Beaverkill River. This tradition is more than 50 years old, and has featured such notables as Sally Jessie Rafael as a First Caster.
The event will take place on April 14th, at 9 a.m., and will be followed by a book signing at the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum & Center in Livingston Manor. Later in the evening,  Joe and his wife, Becky, will be guests at the historic Two-Headed Trout Dinner at the Rockland House Restaurant.
To put the event in perspective: being a "First Caster" is like being asked to throw out the first pitch on the opening day of the baseball season at Yankee Stadium.
Joe is deeply honored to have been chosen to participate in this year's event.
